Displacements: I'm getting a STAIR STEP EFFECT with the map in my animation package.

ZBrush outputs 16 bit grayscale maps, which need to be exported from the Alpha palette in the TIFF format. Other formats are 8 bit images, which do not have the color range necessary to create high quality displacements. In addition, you must ensure that both your rendering engine and any image editing software that you might use the displacement map with support 16 bit or float color images (rgb or greyscale) in order to get the correct displacements. If your software does not support 16 bit images, contact the manufacturer and put pressure on them to change that; 16 bit images are absolutely essential for high quality displacements.

okay,
So I’m sort of at wit’s end with getting a displacement map to work in my animation package and I’m thinking it has something to do with how my UVs are laid out. For my sample project, I made a quick head in Zbrush using Zspheres. I then followed a Meats Meier (sp?) video on how to export the displacement map. Unfortunately, I am getting crazy stairstepping on my map. I have been testing the map I’ve made using the old school way (can’t get MD2 working for me either. Another story entirely) and after creating the map, I:

  1. delete the higher Res versions

  2. re-subdivide and then

  3. increase the INTENSITY and hit APPLY DISP MAP. The picture below is an example of what I have when this happens, and then what it’s supposed to look like.

I know this way is archaic, but this is like the LAST hurdle I have before I can get quality disp maps in my animation package. I always check in photoshop for RGB and 16 bit-ness, and always record the Alpha Depth Factor, but I’m still getting shoddy results. This forum is the ****, and I thank pixologic for setting it up. Thanks a bunch guys. StairSteppingDilemma.jpg

sorry for swearing. Kinda slipped out.

hello ,
i have exported a 2k 32bit map for a dinosaur foot am workin on,it renders out fine…if i skin it and rig it in maya…will the displacement map still function correctly?
i used scott spencer’s technique for rendering out good displacement maps
the problem is its not showin all the details i have in my model.
just for learning purposes am doing the dino leg that showed on the fedex commercial…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMlcgT5EJzE

Kiefer Sutherland reflects on DUI arrest

Kiefer Sutherland has admitted that his decision to drive while under the influence of alcohol last year was “so stupid”.

The 24 actor served a 48-day jail sentence after being arrested and charged over the incident, which took place while he was on probation for a 2004 drink-driving Brazzers Network offence.

“People make mistakes. I never lied about it being a mistake and I had to go through what I had to go through for it,” Sutherland told The Times. “I was incredibly cross with myself for it. It was careless and I wasn’t thinking. Hopefully that’s behind me and I’m moving on. I’ve never had a traffic accident in my Pregnant Girl, but if I did in that situation and I had hurt someone, well, your life is over. It was so stupid.”

Asked about his time in jail, he replied: “I did a lot of folding clothes and thinking about what I was doing in there. I keep feeling I should say something more about it. But I made a mistake and I was lucky because people have been Dogging Uncovered really supportive. I don’t ever want to make a joke of it. There were people who were upset about it and they had a right to be because it’s a dangerous thing to do and I regret it very much.”

Sutherland’s new movie Mirrors is released to cinemas in the UK next month. 24 returns with a two-hour prequel to season seven in November.

He continued: "[De Niro] is a great actor and Anjali Uncovered actually a great guy, who’s going through a difficult time… I think he’s really having like a scratching-his-head session, you know, with his own life and his own career.

“I think he knows he can play a certain kind of role from now for the next 20 years. But I think he wants to change the course of his career.”

Weinstein’s lawyer David Boies slammed the Shaft Uncovered media for releasing the audio, saying: “We are disappointed that any member of the press is trafficking in illegal tape recordings and compounding the damage by taking them out of context.”
