Displacement issue in Lightwave

buuu.jpg
Hi there!

Got some issues when applying the displacement map to my model
in lightwave…could mention that ive followed Steve warners tut (wich is AWSOME!! btw) but ive obviously messed it up somewhere along the way

could have something to do with some issues i had with points being welded together inZbrush wich caused my previously attempts to look really freaked out, but this got alot better when i re-imported my old OBJ model back into my zbrush model (at lvl 1)

…but as u can see there`s still some issues, espessially on the arms and neck area.

hope u guys have som advise for me here

PS. map is flipped and loaded with tiff32 plugin etc

Im considering just starting from scratch again, although im gonna
loose alot of hours work there are some areas that could need some tweaking to get better poly flow for zbrush…

wouldve been nice to know where i went wrong tho so that i dont do it again

Without knowing the exact steps and settings you used along the way, it’s very hard for anyone to guess where things went wrong. I would imagine that’s why you haven’t received replies yet.

hehe sorry about that, figured if saw the errors shown in the
image they would have a good guess about what it could be…
but maybe this`ll help

here`s what i did:

modelled character in lightwave
imported it in zbrush
saved morph target
made GUV uvmap
smoothed it
raised subd lvl to about 4
painted in details (no projectionmaster used)
took it down to subd lvl 1
removed smooth
switch to old morph object
generated disp map
exported OBJ
imported to LW and Subd`d it
loaded it in layout
set subd lvl 10
went into normal displacement plugin
set scale to 150 mm
luminance thingy 50%
selected my zbrush uvmap
loaded the 32bit tiff disp image (with the 32bit loader plugin)

…and this is what i got

All the best

Funky

What version of LW are you running?
In v.9, adding the displacement texture
under the object properties in Layout
has yielded excellent results for me. shrug

Before that, I used Lynx’s displacement plugins
with 8 and under.

yeah i use lynx`s plugin

Aye, then it’ll be a tweak-fest for you.
Before adjusting Luminance value, I would
make adjustments in your scale setting.
i.e. - if you’re close at 150mm, try it at 120mm
and see if it’s better or worse…etc.

I recall having to adjust the Lum value in the
past, but not by much - if it helps.
