Different subdivisions in polygroups?

Sorry about the vague title. Here’s my issue: I imported an OBJ, split it into polygroups based on previously set-up UV tiles, divided the model 3 times, then ctrl-shift clicked the head to isolate it and went to work. After sculpting on it for about an hour, I exported an OBJ to open in Max and realized that it had more polys than when I exported it and that there were a bunch of triangles around the base of the neck.

After going back into Zbrush to check things out, I noticed that when dialed down to the lowest subdivision level that the head group of the model (the group I was working on) appears to have one more level of division than the rest of the model (see image). I have no idea how this happened and am hopeful that there is a way to correct it.

Is it possible to divide just an isolated polygroup?

When you press subdivide it only affects the mesh that is visible. This is why you have local subdivision of polygroups. This causes tris which can show up as artifacting later on.

So if I had a poly group isolated, and then decide to up my subdivisions by one, it would only increase the subdivisions for that polygroup and not the whole mesh?

Lame sauce…
