difference between noise preview and applied noise

How do I get the noise I apply to match what is actually shown in the preview.
When I start adding noise and tweaking it, I can see what I’m doing and what the noise on the mesh should look like. When I’m happy with it and press apply to mesh I get a completely different result all the time, which is far less pronouced (less deep than the noise I aimed for).

Step 1 I imported low poly mesh

Step 2 I used Dynamesh (0 Blur, Projection on, Resolution 256)

Step 3 I apply an alpha as noise (brick displacement)

BUT when I apply I get this horrible looking one

What am I doing wrong? did I forget something? does it have to do with the resolution of the Dynamesh?

The noise preview is just that, a preview

Your mesh isn’t dense enough to support the details you’re trying to apply to it.

Increase your dynamesh resolution or start using subD levels.

Another thing you can do is hit the Convert BPR to Geo under the Tool>Geometry
