Dickie's 80's airbrush Mats and Lights

Heya folks, long time no post! I’ve been a bit busy, but now I have a wee bit of time off, I got to play with Z3 again.

I was developing a cell shader look for Z3 and came across this cool look. It’s a bit like the 1980’s airbrush illustrations I was so fond of back then.

The “lusty devil” image was made with the enclosed materials and lights. The image was tweaked only slightly from the original Zbrush render. (Painted the white highlights of the eyes and increased contrast and saturation).

If you go into the material and change the specular setting to 0 you get my cell shader too! It works quite nicely…

Play with the settings and post your results. I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

Happy Holidays and keep those cards and letters coming…

Dickie

Dickie,

Hey thanks much, the mat/lights indeed does have a nice illustrative airbrush type of look! I’ll give it a go and try the cell shader one you mention by taking the specular to 0. Thanks for your fine forum contribution :+1: :+1: . Nice sculpt by the way too.

Hi, Dickie, that does look like a painting, I can see it on the side of a van or a motorcyle tank. Rich.

Hi Dickie!
Very nice result on the lusty devil! :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:
I’m not at home in these days so I have to wait to take some test… but definitely I think that these setting are perfect for my models!

Excellent work Dickie - and many thanks for the Mats/Lights

Have a wonderful festive season!

Chris

What a great suprise to see a thumbnail that said Dickie was here today!

Hope your holidays are relaxing and you get to play alot with zbrush!

Thanks for the mat and lights to play with!

I’m happy to see that you guys dig the mats and lights…

I have a new set for ya to play with. These make a really cool 1930’s USSR propoganda poster look. A really spattery airbrush with hard edged shadows look. For it to be effective, set your contrast in your render/adjustments panel to 28 or so. It makes deeper shadows and sharper contrast.

Have fun and POST YOUR RESULTS! I wanna see you having fun with the new settings. If ya have any questions, just ask…

Merry Christmas,

Dickie

Hey Dickie,

Just wanted to say another big thank you, got to use your lighting set up and I really dig it!! I used it here: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?p=421571#post421571

Checked out the material but didn’t use it yet. Your generosity let me have some much needed zbrush fun cause while your learning its not always fun. Appreciate it much! :+1: :+1:
