Detail projection problem.

Hello there.
I did model from zsphere and with dynamesh. It has polypaint on it.
After that I did retopo of it little different way but acording to most of tutorials it should still work (I didn’t rig zphere before I started to retopo)
When low poly mesh was ready I wanted to project color and details to it. But it’s no result (see pics)

4th (white cat) pic shows model after projection, as you can see only in ears and little on jaw something happened, why in rest places where topology was fine (i hope so) nothing happened?
Stuff I tried:

  • move by move tool mesh out of high poly model because I though it’s not touching high poly model enough - no result
  • play with distans and other properties - no result or spikes
  • clone highpoly and lowpoly mode. Put zphere ->rigging->import highpoly ->topology ->import lowpoly ->projection ->projection details (lowpoly has same density as highpoly) - no reaction.

I am really sad  I spend 2 days on retopo this one. I know I can clone highpoly model and zremesh it but I don’t like topology on it, if I want geometry in places like eyes I have to make higher res and then get unnecessary geometry in other places that’s why I tried to retopo it by myself. Improving topology of zremesh model is messy as hell that’s why I wish I could avoid that.

You can try using the ZProject brush to clean up the stubborn spots.

Also, you will get better results if you project 1 subdivision level at a time, starting on the lowest level.

First thing I noticed is that you are on a version of ZBrush which needs to be upgraded, after doing that and reading more on the process you may have better results. ZB4 R6 P2 is what everyone else is using(mostly). I want to model a saber tooth sometime, haven’t gotten that far yet.

i don’t see the problem. what does “no result” mean? do you mean you did not get ANY result?

the images show a model with paint, a lowpoly version and both of them together. can’t tell anything from that.

if you post side by side images of the original mesh with the paint and the subdivided low poly mesh after projection with the paint, the issue may be easier to see.

Pic with white model shows lowpoly model with density after projection you can see nothing happens except little on ears and jaw. Why everywhere else nothing happned?

So after asking and checking I exported lowpoly model to Blender and noticed that there were flipped normals. I didn’t seen this in Zbrush

Is there way to check in zbrush if there are flipped normals to not export model all the time to other program?

you can flip normals in the “display properties” palette.

Also, if you have “Double” turned on in “Tool > Display Proprties”, you won’t see that the normals are flipped. You would have to turn “Double” off to see if the normals are facing the right way or not.

Problem solved. Thank you very much.
