Right now i am working on an illustration for a poem in my illustration class. The Poem is “The Werewolf” or in german “der Werwolf” written by Morgenstern.
The idee is the howling Werewolf is on a graveyard howling for the moon. I made a concept in PS. But the Wolf got more like an urukai from lord of the ring and he was looking to evil for that poem (i cant draw that well).
The illustration has to be done till 01.29.2007. Here is my curent work. Plz C&C on that one i need it. Oh by the way its my second model in Zbrush but i hope my first one i’ll finish. Thx
its looking decent so far. i would pull together about 20 pics of wolves and canine skeletal structure to get a better feel for what you are going for. focus on the eyes as they will be the main focal point of your composition. also have the inside of the mouth be a seperate subtool. it makes it easier and the presentation is just that much better.
Good luck and dont forget: REFERENCE MATERIAL REFERENCE MATERIAL REFERENCE MATERIAL
thx DAnconia fr ur advise. The uper and lower teeth are already two separated subtools the tongue is not. So u say the tongue should be one es well? The eyes are suppose to be cloesed but right now i dont ge it right. I’ll try harder.
oh ok, yeah if you already got the inside of the mouth as a seperate subtool you are good to go. Didnt realize you were gonna have the eyes closed cause in your conceptual drawing it shows the eyes open. Which could work either way for you depending on how you handle it. There is a werewolf zbrush model that was done here last year and it was a guy transforming into the werewolf and it was an excellent piece. it made top row so im sure you can find it in the archive. ill see if i can find it and post it here later.
u are talking about the CGTALK werewolf i did see that and its great. I did some minor changes to the wolf (nose, mouth and eyearea, and a little forhead). I will redo the teeth soon. Eyes a closed because of t reasons 1. right now i cant do good eyes and 2. i looked at some wolf howling pics and they all seem to have their eyes closed. Here now the last update for today. (have to sleep class starts in 7h) PS.: its a 80k poly model if anybody cares.
Its nice and neat.
ok i’m not fishing for compliments here. I look for comments which can help me. I said its my second model in Zbrush and thats why i dont understand why i get a BAD thread vote. Plz comment and give some advise dont just vote.
dont act like a german idiot ich bin selber deutsch verhalt dich doch nicht wie ein arschloch!
you should work more the mouth and the cheeks area. the neck looks too shrinked and skinny. perhaps it you put more volume to it, it can be better.
Don’t feel mad about the rating, because it means nothing. I belive that you have a potential and use it.
good luck
thx CocoRebel i’ll work on it and will update it soon.
Learn muscles of a man - and a wolf, and if you do that
its surely gonna improve.
thx for the hints, it should have bin obvious to me. Hopefully i can fix all this stuff in time but our lecturer changed the due date so i have some more time.
again an update. Plz feel free to comment. I did work on the jaw, made some test skin and a *.psd to see how it looks with fur. So here u go

I still have to work on the teeth so this will be next.
As reference i used this pic from a howling wolf

looking better. it almost looks like a cat though. i would stretch out the nose and mouth and see if that helps. also might bring the ears up close to the top of the head. like the PSD work. keep it up.
ok update again. I changed the model to look more human like. The canine was reduced and the ears as well. I did color it allready and put some upper teeth in it. Right now i’m running short on time so i will finish it due next tuesday. Things that will come are lowerteeth and some fur. I experimentet with the fibrematerial and i hope that will work. Any suggestions on how i can do good fur in Zbrush?
That one is before change

wow, that is a world of difference. it looks really good now. keep it up!
I really like the update, well done.
Ok here we go. This one is probably the last update on this one. I will hand this version in for my final project in illustration class tomorrow. I realy finished my first model juhu.
Hope u guys like it.
one word to the workflow: I did everything in zbrush. I startet with a zspheremash retoped it, sculped it and polypainted it. I did use the fibrebrush for the fur just because for me it was faster then making fur in maya or xsi. I will go there later.
I rendered all out and compose it in PS CS3. I did paint the background and tweaked a little here an there so it fits my needs.
Comments are still welcome
