Depth Of Sculpt?

I need to do some sculpting and then machine that sculpting into the outer wall of a tube. I need to know how deep I am sculpting to prevent going through the wall of the tube.

Is there a method or a feature in Z Brush 4R6 that will either limit the sculpting depth or tell me how deep a recess in the sculpt is??

I mistakenly wrote support and asked… they wouldn’t help… I had no idea they only “Supported” install problems & etc… :td:

Any help is appreciated. Many Thanks. Dan.

There are a couple of things that may be helpful in your situation.

  1. Backface masking (Brush> Auto Mask> BackfaceMask). This will limit the brush influence to forward facing polygons. Topological masking may also be of use depending on the situation.

  2. If you store a morph target first, the Layer Brush will sculpt to a consistent, absolute depth from the surface of the mesh.

Many Thanks Scott. I’ll see if I can figure this out. I sure appreciate the reply. I at least now know where to start looking!!! Anything helps.

Dan.

You can also flip your meshes normals, which is very handy for areas you can’t see when say pushing polygons inwards and viewing from a side view.

Just flip them back when finished. In display Properties - Flip

Many Thanks Bangers,
I appreciate the help. I have developed a little beginners method that may work… we’ll know this next week. I’ll give this a try though. This sounds a little more simple than what I arranged…and much less confusing!! Nothing like beating yourself in the head with a hammer!!

Thanks Again. Happy New Year!! Dan.

No prob, there’s a million ways to go about the same thing in Zbrush, discovering them is half the fun.

& Happy New Year to you too, hope you have a great one :+1:

Cheers :]
