default mode not like in the tutorial

hi there

i am pretty new to ZBrush 4 and try to go through the tutorials.
in the first tutorial here http://www.pixologic.com/video/video-v2-zcr.php?videoname=http://www.pixologic01.com/zclassroom/homeroom/lessons/videos/zbrush-ui-basics/at-startup.f4v&w=800&h=500
i learn that ZBrush opens with a red ball which is ready to sculpt.
but thats not the case. when i open ZBrush, it is in 2.5D State and clicking the “Default ZScript”-Button did not bring the Script with the red ball in 3D-mode.
when i go to “safe document as start up” (after selecting an default object for me) it is in 2.5D State when i open ZBrush again.

how do i get a practical 3D-document when i start zBrush?

thanks for helping me,

sincerely,

david ramirer

You’re looking at a tutorial that was created with version 3.5. So it’s now four versions out of date.

Many users did not like the startup sphere, so ZBrush now opens with a blank document. To get the red sphere, simply look at your LightBox window, which will be on the Project heading by default. The third icon will show the DefaultSphere.zpr. Double-click that. Your sphere will now be loaded and in edit mode, ready to go. If you want it the same red color, click the Material thumbnail and choose the MatCap Red Wax material.

If you want to always have the Red Wax material on your sphere, just save it as a new ZPR by using File>Save As. You can then load that project whenever you launch ZBrush.

If you really want ZBrush to always open with the red sphere you can do it but you’d need to edit your DefaultZScript with a couple commands for it. Honestly, it’s more effort that it’s probably worth, though.

i understand - i thought allready that the older version of the tutorial is he point of it all.
thanks for the quick answer - i will klick in the lightbox fpr the default project.

with regards,
david
