Default Alphas [Answered]

can you add alphas to the default list, if so how

Mac or Windows?

In your Zbrush install location there’s a folder called ZStartup/Alphas

Any alphas you put in there will be loaded on Zbrush startup. Just be careful about adding too much stuff as it can cause problems with Zbrush. I think it’s not more than 20 but I don’t remember for sure. These limits might not be an issue in the new 64-bit version.

I create shortcut to an external folder in spot light. this way it keeps the UI from becoming bogged down. Also every time there is a new version of Zbrush any folders that you put the folder in the old default folder will have to be migrated manually. by using shortcut folders, you wont have to worry about moving folders all the time.

Some of the alphas even though they are psd files they somehow are seen as textures. I thought texture were jpgs. But the alphas that zbrush sees as alphas will show up like you say.

Did some checking in PScs6 found rgb mode selected, reset to greyscale problem solved. Thanks your tip sent me in the right direction
