DecoBrush in Projection Master not working on Mac Version 4r6?

Hi all,

I rarely use the deco brush, but there is a modeling technique that employs projection master and scribing the model surface using the DecoBrush and alphas. Great for blocking out hair, etc.

I notice that when I try using this I’m getting a clipped alpha boundary with a hard trough-like indent at the alpha’s border. When I exit projection master, the harsh outline remains. Can anyone else verify this problem? I’ve tried altering all the modify perameters in the alpha menu to no avail.

Running Mac OSX. 10.6.8

thnx,

Is it 4R6 P2?

Yes, running 4r6 P2.

Here’s the problem, visually(see attached):

Can other Zbrush users duplicate this issue?

I’d use it as a mask somehow and pull or push or inflate the arrow. OR create a 3D arrow and add that to the mesh. Haven’t tried your method.

The arrow is just a test case (standard alpha from pixologic). It’s the DecoBrush in Projection Master I’m trying to troubleshoot.

Dynamesh? First screen grab shows no indication of Deco brush. Used Projection Master with arrow alpha and got nice clean arrow here. Personally, I don’t think I’d be using it to slap on something resembling hair, many methods to do this. All the best.

thanks. Yep, know about all these other methods. It’s the DecoBrush that’s behaving wonky. I’m trying to verify whether it’s a bug that exists outside my specific install of zbrush.

I can confirm that this is an issue with the Deco Brush in ZBrush 4R6. I will let the development team know. If you have ZBrush 4R5 installed it works OK in that, otherwise I’m afraid you’ll have to wait until it’s fixed.

thanks for confirming Marcus. I’m getting Projection Master script error messages in 4r5, but will try to fix.

btw: this is the error message that gets tossed up as I attempt to use projection master in 4r5:

scriptError.jpg

did a search for ProjectionMaster.txt, no luck finding the text file.

Can you list me the steps to do this and I can try when I get home today?

I haven’t even really used projection master because its been broken for so long. I didn’t even realize it was working.

Just used it in version 5 here, got good results. Saved out a ztl file afterwards which opened fine with ZB4R6 P2. I just noticed your point count, if you want it better than that, you’ll have to divide it first so there are points to shift. Your model needs to be divided enough first for best results. I used a 3D cylinder > made PolyMesh 3D and divided 4 times for my test.

Yes, I’d forgotten about that. The attached plugin will allow you to use Projection Master in ZBrush 4R5 on MacOSX.

  1. Unzip the file and copy the PMhack.zsc to your ZBrush 4R5/ZStartup/ZPlugs folder.
  2. Restart ZBrush.

The plugin just adds a few buttons to the interface so that Projection Master can find them. The buttons don’t actually do anything but it means that Projection Master won’t stall. However, note that:

  • You can’t use the ‘Shaded’ option for colors. On pick up you’ll get an error.
  • If you want Double-sided then turn on Tool>Display Properties>Double (and turn this off for single sided). The Projection Master option doesn’t so anything.

HTH,

Marcus,

the PMhack.zsc worked like a charm. 4R5 is up and running. Mighty thanks for the workaround!

Hah! Thanks! That’s great! :+1:

So when is there a fix coming for deco brush? I use this alot. Are we going to have to wait until R7?

Deco Brush in 4r7 p2 (for mac) still busted. Any chance we get this resolved?

thanks,

-m.

Just bumping this on the off chance anyone found a working solution or if there is any news regarding decobrush?
