Decimation Master Removes All Groups

Hello,

I have been using the latest decimation master for the PC. I have a model of a person and when I view it in 3DS is has seperate groups. So the head is a group and each arm and leg is a group and then the body so I have 6 groups total.

In Decimation Master when I choose to “decimate all”, I will view the model again in 3DS and now the entire model is 1 group, I can’t distinguish the head from the arms, and it seems like a lot of work to manually re-create these groups. I have also tried “decimate current” but I get the same results.

So my question is… is there a way to use decimation master but still preserve the grouping of the model? I have been searching the internet high and low for an answer but no luck. Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you.

Hey there,

there is no way you can keep your Polygroups after using Decimation Master. If you think about it, it makes sense. Just switch on the Polyframe. The entire geometry is completely changed, so how would ZB be able to maintain the Polygroups?

Hope that helps … or not

Hi dsoellbuster, thanks for the reply. What you say makes sense, but I can see from some of the tutorials that is is possible to reserver the groups as long as they are maintained in a subtool group.

Is it possible to import an obj and convert the polygroups to subtool groups?

Thanks!

Hello i ran into this problem
the other poster is right there is no way to keep grouping informiation after decimating.
so what i do is grp split the model into however many subtools …
then decimate them each individually
export them individually into my 3d animation program where i have the original unsculpted model .
i then replace the entire original model piece by piece with the new sculpted and decimated pieces

hope this helps
