Decimation master --> normals --> 3dsmax

Hi everybody,

I've read about normal mapping and 3dsmax and other things, but seems I can't find the right information for my case. Suppose I've a finished model in Zbrush, it's decimated to an acceptable quantity of polys. Then I want to bring it to 3dsmax, but I HAVE NOT ANY LOW RES of this model, cause I've started sculpting and forget saving a low poly version as .obj at the beginning. Well, I can export the this finished, decimated, model to .obj and import into 3dsmax. But, what if I want to further reduce the poly count in 3dsmax, by using normal mapping? Do you have any ideas on how to do that? I read tutorials, but they seem to suppose that you ALREADY HAVE A LOW POLY MODEL TO PROJECT THE NORMAL MAPS ON IT, and I don't have it : S I thought, maybe I can decimate to 1%, and then use that as a base for projecting normal maps? I guess it would be a mess, is any better way to do that?

Thanks everybody

Have you considered simply retopologising using the retopo tools? Qremesher is an option now too if you don’t want to take the time to do it yourself. I could be wrong but this seems like the best (if not only) option if you don’t have a low poly version to work with.
