Death of the Family Joker

This month I have Project and Portfolio IV along side another class, Character Animation. This post serves as a work in progress where I will update throughout the month my progress on the model I chose to create. The model is Death of the Family Joker based on Greg Capullo’s artwork. I have previously done another Joker sculpt that I was not entirely satisfied with looking back at it. However, this has been a model that I’ve been meaning to work on for some time now and I am hoping it turns out for the best.
This week in particular was all about gathering up reference and starting our block out. I tried to gather as much reference as I could from online and my own collection of Greg Capullo’s artwork on Batman. Afterwards, I started the block out mainly focusing not he face. I regret focusing so much on only one area of the model as I would have liked to have had the entire block out done this week. Poor time management can be blamed for that. Anyways, I am still working on and will have it done (hopefully) some time in the coming days.

I am also still working on the Punk Tracer sculpt.

This week I focused on getting the body correct. I still need to work a lot on my anatomy but I didn’t want to stress too much about since he will be covered up by his clothing. Still, I felt it was good practice just to get some of the proportions right. What I did this week was basically the entire body, block out the clothes and adding small details on the face hooks, straps, belts, props, etc. I am hoping to get the poses and rest of the model done by this week if I am able to manage my time efficiently so that I can move on to other phases that I feel I lack such as Retopologizing, Using, Texturing, etc. Overall, I really enjoyed modeling the rest of the character this week but am still eager to start adding in more detail.

This week I focused on finishing up a lot of the props such as the gloves, the little book, the boots, etc. I still have to work on the wrinkles on his clothes and fix up a couple of areas I’m not fond of. I have also started retopologizing in Maya, as that is the phase that I am in right now for the class.

This is the final week of Portfolio IV and I’ve really enjoyed working on this project. This week I basically refined and added in more detail into the sculpt. Once I felt it was good enough to move onto the next phase of the pipeline they us to follow which is retopologizing. Many of the objects were made in Maya with quad draw and with retopology in ZBrush.

Look’s really great! Really love the comic books and i think you are doing a good job recreating this character. Will keep on looking!

Thanks! I will try and keep consistent updates but I apologize if I’m not able to what with holiday seasons approaching and classes.

I’ve been busy with personal stuff but here are a couple things that I have been working at. Fixing up and finishing sculpts in order to retopologize, uv, texture and hopefully rig/ pose.
