Dan Fessler - Sketch Book

Every time I come here I get too scared to post something because of how awesome all of these works are. I’ll try to bite the bullet and post a few things as I learn how to do this whole zbrush thing. I’m getting a good hang of the modeling aspect, but there’s much more I wish to learn such as compositing, normal mapping for low-poly models, and texturing. I’m actually a professional 2d pixel artist for the mobile games industry, but since I just quit my job I’ve found I have much more free time to try things like this than I use to. I don’t know how often i’ll update this, but here’s to hoping!

anyhow, here’s we go. dogazoid bust. probably 3-4 hours. is that fast? slow? blargh.

Today’s work in progress:

it seems like it’s pretty much a requirement to try a hulk-ish model with zbrush, so I thought i’d give it a go. This is what I’ve got so far. C+C is always welcome

The detailing on the backhead is nice and I think 4 hours are ok. You will become faster with more experience. Perhaps it´s helpful to look at the shape with the fast shader. Imo the shape isn´t very interessting.
On the hulk I like the big hands. I´m not sure about the legs and the head, perhaps they could become a little smaller. You should try the clay brush, or the clay tubes, they are great for building up muscles.

update on the model

I think it looks pretty cool!
Maby you should build up some more basic details before adding those scaly “outer” details.
Like Sebastian said, the clay brush is really good for this.
Also the red wax material is kind of hard to se the detail in the sculpt I think.
Try another one, for instance there is a lot of great matcaps to download at pixologic.

Keep it up!
