D hotkey dynamesh?

What does the ‘D’ hotkey do to the dynamesh? Couldnt find it in the docs.
Just curious.

Cheers

I don’t think it does anything for Dynamesh. But I may be wrong so hang in there until someone with more knowledge comes along.

‘D’ is the hotkey for switching to a higher subdivision level, or Dynamic subdivision if you’re using it, it’s not used for DynaMesh.

Hey dillster! How ya doin? Thanks for the bump man

Hey marcus, thanks man. Yeah when I get up close it looks like the mesh is being smoothed. Everything gets laggy and the wireframe goes rounded like you would expect, except there is no increase in points or poly stats on the interface and you can back out of the smoothed situation by pressing 'lower resolution 'under geometry I think. I pressed it by accident and was wondering if there was a specific use for it.

Cheers guys!

Yes, I just checked - hitting ‘D’ while using DynaMesh will turn on Dynamic Subdivision. I’m afraid you’ll just have to try and avoid that!

D/Shift D are the default keys for moving up and down subdivision levels, if your subtool has them. If your mesh has no Subdivision levels, it instead toggles on dynamic subdivision, which is highly useful for previewing subdivision smoothing on low poly meshes without destructively subdividing them. However, this also makes it possible to accidentally switch on dynamic subdivision for a high poly mesh if it has no subd levels, for instance during a dynamesh workflow, which will have a performance impact.

I personally recommend switching the hotkey assignments of the D and Shift-D functions, to make the one that triggers the Dyna Sub require the two button combo press, which should make it less prone to error.

Thanks for the info.
Will try and keep my fingers under control
