Cut eye holes?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone could help me, I’m new to zbrush and trying my first head model, see attached. I was just wondering a few things, first, is there a smoothing brush? ie is there away you can smooth a specific area rather than the whole head? Also is it possible to cut the mesh where the eyes are to put the eyes in? And how do you have 2 or more separate objects in the same model ie eyes and head

Sorry for all the questions, I’ve only been using zbrush for a day so I’m pretty useless.

Hi there Bowds.

Here are some links that might help.

for multiple, Separate objects, use subtools. You can get a basic subtools outline here:
You can also download the subtool master plug-in here:

And you can see a tutorial on using subtool master here:

As for cutting out eye holes, I’d recommend pushing those sections of the mesh in to / around the eye, but if you really want to cut them, you could create a mask that covers all but the eyes, then choose masking>>Hide Pt. This will hide unmasked points, at which time you can go to geometry>>delete hidden.

You can see more about masking here:

As for smoothing, I’m assuming you mean normal smoothing in the display, not actually giving you more geometry. I’m not aware how you can do that, although faceting shows up more / less on different materials, so unless someone else answers, I think you could try that for now.

Good luck, and learning this application is like learning to compose music, lots of little sounds to get familiar with before you can create a symphony. Be cool man.

Thanks for the help,

Ill try those tutorials and see how I go.

Hey I’ve gone through that subtool tutorial, but the link for the plugin did not work, do you know anywhere else I can find it?

Thanks

Also I’m on zbrush 2, does that version have subtools?

SubTools are a Z3 feature.

With ZBrush 2, you would need to snapshot the eyes to the canvas separately (in which case you can’t rotate the model) or you would have to attach the eyes as part of the original mesh. This is done by exporting the eyes and then selecting the head mesh. You then turn on Tool>Import>Add and press the Import button. Loading the eyes will then insert them into the head.

Ok so I’ve got it up to here…

Still have to add much more skin detail etc, but are having trouble getting the eyes right. Does anyone know if there is a way to save two or more different materials in a texture? Every time I do the eyes in a gloss material it disappears when I load the texture.
