Customize UI Buttons Not Showing Up

Hello!

I’ve been having trouble with my Custom UI buttons not displaying properly. I’ve tried reloading my UI a few times but with no luck. The issue isn’t consistent either, sometimes they do show up and I haven’t determined why.

In the attached image you can see when I turn on “Enable Customize” you can see a shadow of where the button should be. When turning off “Enable Customize”, they disappear.

I’m currenly using Zbrush 2019. The issue has been present for me through a few previous versions as well.

I’m sure it’s something simple I’m missing, but I’m curious if anyone else has had this problem.

Thanks!

Hello @Tony_Clark

Please upgrade your program. :slightly_smiling_face: This is free for registered users, and you are missing years of features and bug fixes. Obsolete program versions are not supported.

Non-standard brushes assigned to an interface will not show up on the interface until they are loaded into the program, via Lightbox or otherwise. Only the brushes in the startup data files load with the program. You can add brushes to the startup files, but do it sparingly–there are performance implications. It would be best to do this only for brushes you’ll be using all the time. More situational brushes you won’t be using every session should be loaded on demand through Lightbox.

Thanks for the replies,

@Spyndel I will try upgrading and see if that helps. One thing to note, the custom buttons that I have set up aren’t unique special brushes, they are mostly commands from the subtool palette and polygroups palette, standard commands like duplicate, delete, merge, etc.

@zber2 I’ve definitely tried going in and out of edit mode as I did notice that they seemed to be context sensitive.

I see that now. When I glanced at your screenshot before I just saw a bunch of brushes on an interface shelf. People wondering why their custom brushes dont show up in a UI is a very common question.

That issue aside, your issue is probably more what ZBer mentioned. You may have a lot of functions on the interface that require a tool to be in 3d edit mode in order to show up. Try loading up a 3d tool, entering edit mode (T), and seeing if they dont pop in. If they don’t, it might be useful to see a list of exactly what isnt showing up.

BTW, I don’t think that the out of date program is specifically your issue, but obsolete program versions arent supported, and may be missing fixes (not to mention great new features). Since the upgrade is free for registered users, it’s best to be up to date before seeking help for technical issues just to eliminate variables.

@Spyndel I wanted to let you know that I’ve upgraded to 2021 and am no longer seeing the issue. My custom UI is remaining without a problem.

Thanks for your help and I’ll let you know if I run into it again.

I reinstalled the last version of paid for nonsubscription zbrush. The custom UI STILL doesn’t work.

Is Maxon trying to force us to upgrade to subscription zbrush?
