Custom VDM Brush from overhanging mesh problem

I am trying to create a custom VDM Brush from a shape that has overhanging parts. For example see screenshot. I use the plane project 1024 resolution from Lightbox as base and sculpt on it to create the vdm brush. The result is always that an overhanging shape is connected with the ground plane once the brush is created and applied.

Is there a problem in my workflow or is there a bug? This once worked pretty well. ZBrush 2022.0.7

Hello @ceend ,

It looks like you have failed to create a VDM brush are are still working with a normal alpha. I don’t immediately experience any problems with creating a VDM overhang brush in ZBrush 2022.0.7.

Please review the process for creating VDMs and make sure your procedure is sound:

Hi Spyndel,

thanks yes it works while sculpting the template directly. It does not work somehow if I append a subtool as second mesh to the template plane, use dynamseh to combine them into one object and create chisel brush from it. Is there a way to do it?

Bumping this. Is there a workflow to convert an exiting subtool into a VDM Brush? Would appreciate some direction here, thx!
