custom menu, shortcut saved but not working in Win 7

I have the following problem with ZBrush 4.7, latest:

  • I created a custom menu and assigned a keystroke to it (the tilde key).
  • The keystroke works
  • I store the hotkeys file and save a copy
  • I re open ZBrush and the keystroke does not work anymore.
  • I try to re assign it, but get the message it is already assigned
  • I go to C>Users>…>ZStartup>Hotkeys and open the txt file and my shortcut is indeed on the file

I use Windows 7 Pro and a Wacom tablet with the latest driver

Here are the last two lines from StartupHotkeys.TXT:

[BASIC,1146] // Alt+Z
[ERIK,126] // ~

Anyone an idea?

Is there an object in edit mode?

There is an editable mesh, yes.

I may have found the ‘solution’ though:

I noticed that the second line from the bottom up was a ‘Basic’ line. Basic was the name of a User pallette I created as an experiment and deleted by emptying it and removing its name. But its shortcut was still there on the file.

So I deleted this shortcut, together with the new "erik’ pallette shortcut, and then, in ZBrush, gave the ‘erik’ pallette the shortcut Alt-Z.

This works, and after closing and re-opening ZBrush, still seems to work.
If this keeps on happening, I am a happy man. Then I can assign this to my Wacom pen’s lower button.

OK.

It keeps on working now, even after rebooting the machine and assigning it to the Wacom pen button.

Problem solved.

I guess that when ZBrush ‘reads’ the txt file, it stops when it meets an anomaly, like a shortcut to a non-existing pallette. Remove this, re-assign your desired keystroke and it works as it should.

Yes, although I’ve not tested, that seems likely. Anyway, I’m glad you’ve got it sorted and thanks for sharing your solution.

My pleasure.
It often happens that by wording a problem in public my logic seems to follow less artistic paths.

So thanks for this forum!
