Why my custom made curve brush with octagonal profile is ‘paper thin’?
(1) shows how it looks like at the beginning, (2) how it looks after dynamesh.
I tried making the base geometry for polygon clean by weld and mirror. But this octagon is an import from Rhino.

It looks like the normals of your geometry are flipped. This may indicate an issue with the geometry you are importing. I would simply create the octagon in ZBrush and extrude it as normal.
It does work when I do everything natively inside Zbrush. And no surprise here.
Side note:
I flipped the normals of that mesh (display>flip) but that did not help…
