Curve Tube Brush: how to connect newly drawn curve

Hey all!

I’ve gone and had a case of stupids. I had created a tail for sculpting purposes, on my cat and then decided, I needed to rig it for animation. I deleted that part of the mesh, closed hole and decided to redraw(a bit of time has lapsed since the original tail was made).

So I took the curve tube brush and drew out a straightened tail for easy bone placement and joint orientations. I positioned the tube starting inside of the kitty and continuing out.

My question is. How do I combine the meshes together so that I can properly blend and sculpt the two as one?

If you don’t care about the topology dynamesh can do it
If you care about the topology it is relatively easy if you don’t have subdivisions. It can be done with insert mesh or editing with zmodeler with his bridge options. The first one is quicker and the second more accurate.
If you have subdivisions then you need to work with the lower subdivision and do the same process described. For that you can use freeze subdivision or simply projecting the geometry.

Thanks Altea,

I’m a bit lost. Insert mesh? How do I insert the tail that is already created into the existing mesh as shown in the picture. Is there an insert option after creating the curve?

I would do dynamesh, as you suggested, but I made the mistake of correcting the mesh before I should have and then realized I needed to rig the tail :(. This just started out as a sculpture…Bad me, bad me.

So to attach these two meshes, what do I do?

I’m not sure the status of your sculpture and what are your objectives and that is the reason why I have offered several options. All of them are valid and depends of what you need:

Dynamesh Boolean described in both links of the bottom of this page:
http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/modeling-basics/creating-meshes/dynamesh/

Insertmesh here:
http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/topology/replacing-parts/

Zmodeler bridge in the bridge section of this page:
http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/modeling-basics/creating-meshes/zmodeler/zmodeler-actions/edge-actions/

You can select and delete the overlapping polys, and use curve bridge brush.

You’ll probly want to remesh it when you’re done.
