Curve editing: the whole curve is moved

Hi all,
This is a problem I’ve been having for some time now,
whenever I’m editing a curve, for some reason the whole curve is affected (actually, the part of the curve from the point I’m editing to the end -see image-)

I’m sure it must be a single setting that I must have changed without realising it but no matter what I’ve tried I couldn’t fix it.

anybody has any idea what it could be?
Thanks!

Hello @Aris,

That’s just sort of the way it works, and has never worked any differently as far as I can tell. By default, the curves are a single piece of “string”, and pulling on it anywhere will also pull the rest of it.

Enabling the following settings may help you achieve what you’re after:

Stroke> Curve, and then:

Lock Start
Lock End
Elastic OR Liquid

This will allow you to pull on a curve in a given location and add more “string” to that specific area, reducing the pull on other areas.

If you want exacting control over a curve, you can always edit it with the topology brush, then switch back to a curve brush to draw out the stroke.

Good luck!

Hi @Spyndel,
thanks for the response but I fear I wasn’t clear enough when I asked the question:
when I say that it moves the whole curve, I mean that it moves it as a solid object, not as a string.

If you notice the image, you will see that the rope has moved all together, as if it was a solid object, leaving a straight line at one point. (from the base mesh to the cursor).
The part of the curve from the start to the point that I’m editing behaves normaly but the rest just moves as a solid.

In the images bellow it’s more clear: the top-left end of the rope is the start. As I edit the rope, the curve from the point I edit to the end just moves along with the cursor while retaining its shape. Only the part from the start to the editing point behave normal.

Hi @Aris,

Activate both “Bend Start” AND “Bend End” in the Stroke> Curve menu, and read the Ctrl-Mouseover tool tip for those functions for an explanation.

Thank you!
