CTRL + D aren't working

Pretty much the title. I can’t up the resolution of my models after I make a 3d polymesh by doing CTRL + D. It works on the default sphere mesh, and the meshes of the other default things they have (the dog, super soldier, etc) but if I want to make my own models it isn’t working.

What is wrong? Is there another way to up the resolution of models? Or is CTRL + D the only way?

The keyboard shortcuts for changing subdivision levels are D to go to a higher level and Shift+D to go to a lower level.

To find the shortcut for any interface item, simply mouse over it in the interface. (The controls for subdivision levels are in the Tool>Geometry menu.)

To change a shortcut, Ctrl+click on the interface item. Then without moving the mouse off that item press the keyboard shortcut you would like to use, followed by Enter. You will need to then save your shortcuts using the Preferences palette.

I’ll direct you to this link. This is my problem.

It’s not that I can’t switch between the 2 subdivisions that it makes when you do a 3d polymesh, it is that I can not increase it more. It’s stuck on however many active points it makes when I make the polymesh.
