creature design - the stingerhead (Updates)

Looks wonderful…and I like what ya did with the ears:)
The coloring is great. He reminds me kind of a cranky
old professor or something. Can’t wait to see your final
render on him.

Awesome texture work :+1:

Excellent texture-work, Scott - you’ve definitely managed to achieve a very sound sense of translucency to the skin here
(without labouring the point by making it over-photoreal);
the slight exaggeration to the contrast in the hues you’ve painted help immensely in bringing this guy to life :+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Can’t wait to see the final renders

Chris

Hi Everyone! Thanks for the replies : ) Im still trying to to get SSS working in MR with the help of a friend. Hopefully I can update tomorrow.

Atwooki: Thanks man, im glad you like it!!

Blaine91555: Cheers man Thanks!

aminuts He is actually a self portrait (eyes Jason) just kidding : )

Mr.Monster Thanks Brian! I took my inspiration for he paint technique by gathering second hand details on how one of my favorite painters works. A former co-worker of yours actually  I figured it made sense to try and paint in ZBrush how people paint with an airbrush…Incidently,
The maps are reacting very interstingly on SSS.

Ricardo: Thanks man, The more I test render the more I see how flat the neck is… I need to revisit that. (maaa!)

SS810:Thanks. I was hoping a sense of weight might come across.

Well of to listen to the next Dark Tower book on tape and test some more. I need to finish this soon or work proper is going to catch up to me

thanks again everyone. Updates soon I promise!

After lots of trial and error and the incredible help of my friend Hector Deatore Here is the final Stingerhead image. Mental Ray for SSS and photoshop for post, the usual suspects.

I hope you guys enjoy it.

this is excellent Scott!!! the texture is magnific!

Fantastic !
I wish I could paint and render like that !
Awesome.

It would be nice to see it with a cavity map dropped into the subdermal layer,
That would highlight (or lowlight ) all the finer details of the sculpt.
Looks pretty good as it is though !

wow this is so cool, nice work:D

Scott congrats man. A great piece of work dude. (kinda reminds me of brien  )

Nice! I think the most recent render is a bit too saturated though

Very nice work! Cool freckle texture of the head. Blends in nicely!

“Great Scott!”

This sure turned out nice. I like the addition of the spotted coloring on the sides of his head as well.
Truely great work. You’ve nailed it!

Five stars for Scott!
~Brian

He looks great! nice depth…when will the hector plugin be available?

Great job Scott, 5 star work indeed. Keep it up!! :+1:

Five stars…top shelf! Top shelf!

looks great scott

i like the spotted touch on the temple.

turned out really nice, would be cool to see variations of skin colors on this guy, i was thinking a lighter color, although it is beautiful, just an idea.

thanks for much needed inspiration!

Great work Scott. My only gripe would be that the eyes look a bit too photoshopped along with the highlight on the sternomasticloid. That’s just me though and as usual you did an amazing job.

Rock on,

Hey Man.
Turned out great!
Let’s see from the side too.
Cheers

Aka, The Voodoo Monkey

That’s really amazing color. He looks real.
