Could use help with layers causing warping on my model

Hey everyone. Just recently purchased ZBrush.
So, I have a question:

Let’s pretend I have an A posed figure,
When using Layers, I record one new layer with his arms raised up. I then stop recording, go back to the base model, and decide to make his hands a little bigger. When I make the posed layer visible again the hands are now deformed in various ways… skewed, stretched.

I assume this is normal… or is it? Maybe based on how the vert transforms are attained?
Is there a way around this, or a way to fix, repair or prevent? Or if it’s just normal?

I’ve been trying various things like different layer orders, morph targets, transpose master, and TM + morph targets. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
