copy of Guillaume Coustou's "vulcan"

heres a copy of Guillaume Coustou’s “vulcan”. Originally I thought I’d do it for the latest cgtalk hardcore modeling challenge, but i wasnt in the mood to make a new base mesh from scratch :stuck_out_tongue:

original: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guillaume_Coustou_the_Younger

for more of my work you can check out Calebashmore.com

I know this isnt perfect, and I suppose its mostly finished except for endless tweaking  I’m open to any suggestions!

The render certainly looks perfect,… great light !..but its hard to judge the model from just one angle…but as your ""lighting"skills are as good as your “modelling” one’s, it looking fine

jantim

geez thats nice ,i dont know what the original work looks like though ,but yours looks great ,only crit been that the left shoulder looks a bit deformed.Strangely enough the feet look excellent

thanks guys!

heres some different angles,

hi claybub ,from these angles the shoulder looks right ,so guess it must be the angle then,it seemed a little flat in the first post, but then again i am not an anatomy boffin

awesome work claybub, I can’t see any problems with the anatomy. it would be great to see some work in progress shots or wireframes

Great model and the render quality really helps to display your art. :+1:

Great work here! I do see the same problem in the first pic with the shoulder where the deltoids overlap the bicep. The transition is too abrupt I think.

But I believe this is one of the better statue models I’ve seen here.

its awsome, head is very nice and since u asked for suggestions here is my humble suggestion
tricep on his right arm should be prominent because its not stretched.
and his left shoulder should have a lil more mass/volume. it looks that wen u sculpted it it was in the air but wen u combined it together with the armor it seems resting on it. and visually it looks that the weight has been transferred onto his left elbow. i dont know but it looks to me.

very nice done  i like it.

just a little thing
bellybutton looks a but huge to me. and it looks to perfektly round

Nice job you have done there 5*

nice wrk …

Great great great, that´s all I can say. Don´t know if it´s perfect or not, but I love it. 5 starz from me

nice sculpt…

i think previous comments have covered other area’s, i think you should examin the legs, especially the knee and quad area’s. the vastus medialis seems to fall too far behind the knee.
love how you’ve handled the feet and hands! hope that helps  nice work man!

It looks a bit too alive for a sculpture, but I guess that’s what they’re going for. The lighting is lovely as well.
