Adjust height or diameter of cylinder and or reps on alpha?
Yes, as Doug says, your alpha not only has to repeat but its width must be a direct ratio with the circumference of the cylinder.
what doug and marcus said should work, but you might be able to save some headaches by just uv unwrapping the cylinder, turning your pattern into a depth map, stretching the uv shell onto the pattern (it will stretch if the ratio is not right), and then applying the texture as a depth map and baking the results into your mesh.
just another approach if you don’t want to remake your texture.
