Connect only selected parts

I made a leg.
I want to connect only the red part.

If you use Dynamesh, the yellow part will also be connected.
I don’t want to connect the yellow parts.

Is there a way to connect only the red part?

Hello @beginner

You could:

  1. Move the toes farther apart so Dynamesh has the space to perform better with them. Limbs and digits must be spaced far apart in a neutral position if you want to use that mesh with Dynamesh. Note that meshes that are undersized in the ZBrush worldspace perform poorly with Dynamesh, and it is difficult to get enough resolution for them. As always, you must increase the resolution slider to capture finer amounts of detail with Dynamesh.
  • Because this will be an ongoing issue, it may be better to save the toes for the late stage work on your mesh when you are ready to create more stable topology that you dont expect to change often. Consider them fine detail.
  1. Use Live Boolean. Live Boolean will create an entirely new merged mesh in the Tool palette, and only fuse the mesh where the mesh pieces intersect. Make sure the toes only intersect with the foot, and not each other. However, the toes will still fuse together if you attempt to Dynamesh later without enough space between them.
  • However, the denser the mesh, the slower Live Boolean will perform. If you don’t want the operation to take minutes, you may want to reduce the polycount of the pieces involved. Zremesher can do this.

Thank you for your reply.

I plan to use a dyna mesh with my fingers separated.

I have a question about live boolean.

Should I erase the touching finger with live boolean?

Yes, if using Live Boolean you should take care that the toes only intersect where you want the meshes to be fused. Otherwise they will be joined in that location.

One thing I forgot to mention about using Dynamesh is that you must increase the resolution slider to capture finer detail, if you haven’t already. However, if the toes are too close together, no amount of resolution will keep them from being fused together.
