Congratulate me! I am the proud new owner of ZBrush!

Hi. After years of toying with applications and avoiding becoming a modeler, I bought Zbrush this morning. My goal is to produce cg comics in the style of the old school of comics, Byrne, Kirby, etc.

I also got Maya 2008 and Modo 301, along with CS3 Master. Anybody who can point me to the best place to get started besides the manual, please help!
Thanks, and cant wait to get home and crack it open!

wow, you got the hook up on those apps!!! Congrats and welcome to Zbrush. For some instruction i would start here in the forums and just type in the keyword “tutorial” and there will be a wealth of information here for you. Also they have ZClassroom on this site under EDUCATION that can get you started. Aside from that you have Lynda.com which will show you how to use Maya and any program within the CS3 package. It has video tutorials and its only 25 bucks a month. with some gumption you can get through all the tutorials in a few months. much cheaper and a wider variety of lessons and programs than getting individual DVDs on one program. Unfortunately they do not have anything on Zbrush at Lynda.com because Gnomon pretty much has that covered.

Again, welcome and happy Zbrushin!!!

Well, I know cs3 pretty good, I use it at work all the time, and I use after effects for my forensic animation work too, but as far as 3d, I am stepping up from carrara/poser/cinema 4d/hexagon to maya/modo/zbrush/maybe mudbox. It’s time to take it to a new level. I am making good side money doing forensic visualization, but now I need to move into a new realm of realism. Zbrush looks like the way to go!

The best place for ZBrush: classroom
for the other: Linda.com

Classroom? Maybe in your world. I am a full time working father of 2 with a freelance forensic animation company. There’s not a lot of classroom time to go around!
Cheers!

now why didnt you say sbrush:zclassroom in the first place!
thanks for the heads up!
Which Alex Alvarez disc do you suggest?
Thanks again!

Oh excuse my friend i supposed you knew about the zclassroom…
in relation to Alex dvd i think whatever he does in tutorials will be of help. He is clear and have a very programmed way of teaching. He is not picking from one point to another in a random manner:D , also he dont take a breakfast while doing the tutorials so the mouth sounds are not present:lol:
Cheers

Actually, I had forgotten about the zclassroom. I appreciate the help!
I am actually watching the discs from KURV Studios now, they are pretty good. I can’t figure our which Alex Alvarez discs on gnomon are the right ones. I see a zbrush disc by meats meier, but not really finding one by Alex, a lot of maya though.

The tutorials By Alex are good, but it you want a faster and wider view of ZBrush, check out the Intro to Z3 vid by Meats. I would stay away from Petrock’s vids if you were not looking for anatomical and form studies.
There are also a few good tutorials online contributed by users (Youtube, etc). Content fI’ve seen from Digital Tutors did not blow my skirt up.

Happy ZBrushing/Maying/Modo/CS3…(that should keep you busy for a while!)
