How do I get the space back in between the canvas and the work space outlined by the green rectangle I outlined in the picture.
Uncertain which you want:
-
To “fill” the highlighted empty space with the canvas, the canvas has to be large enough (in pixel dimension) to fill that space. Make sure you arent zoomed out on the canvas ( Press Document> Actual), then adjust the pixel width of the canvas in the Document window. Disable “Pro” in order to increase width without also increasing height proportionately.
-
If you’ve lost that highlighted empty space and want it back, simply scroll the canvas (Document > Scroll) to the desired location.
Starting canvas size can be saved with Document> Save as Startup Doc
It has more to do with configuring the work space, in preferences, rather than the document size though, which is fine as it is. I was configuring the work space and rearranging the buttons. Sorry if my post wasn’t clear enough.
My original answer stands. In order to occupy that space the canvas has to be large enough to fill it, which will vary with your screen resolution. A document 800 pix wide will not fill 1000 pixels worth of screen space, unless zoomed in (document zoom), which you pretty much never want to do anyway unless working on a 2d document.
If the canvas IS large enough, but something is preventing it from filling in that space when you scroll it, then you’ve got some kind of spacer or extraneous UI element there.
Make sure to disable Preferences> Config > Enable Customize to accurately view a customized workspace. It often doesn’t preview correctly until you leave customize mode.
I hate to be a bother about this but I just tried opening zbrush on a 1440 monitor I use for reference. You could see there is nothing in between that space. And I played around with the document settings. It’s as if once you take away space from the canvas to add buttons on to the work space, and you take away those buttons from the works space out for whatever reason, the canvas won’t regain that space back and you’d have to start all over again, which would be a PAIN. I’ve been struggling enough with the customize features in 2019. It’s a little buggy because sometimes the buttons don’t move when you are ctrl, alt dragging them around. They stay in place until start up. Actually, not to sound sarcastic, but might you try customizing your own work space the way I did mine, and see if you get the same issue as I do? Also, if you notice, I took the pic AFTER I disabled the customize button.

Never mind. I tried it on a new session. It might be that I brought a config file from 2018 unto 2019 and I would have to build another one. Which like I said, is a pain. But then again, for some reason, I don’t have the issues of the buttons not dragging when I ctrl alt drag. Well, life’s a B"""".
Never mind.
