Config files missing/ lost hotkeys

Hello Good People,

Let me preface this by saying I am fairly new to zbrush. I am however not new to cg and have used other programs professionally for the last six years.

After finding that today my ctrl -z does not work anymore I did some digging and found a thread about it which pointed me to the zstartup dir.

I have found that there is no file whatsoever in either dir for

C:\Users\Public\Documents\ZBrushData\ZStartup\ConfigFiles
C:\Users\Public\Documents\ZBrushData\ZStartup\Hotkeys

Is this normal? I am assuming there is supposed to be a .txt in those dirs and I am curious why there is nothing. I am not sure if there was anything in them yesterday. I tried creating a new StartupHotkeys.txt file in the hotkeys dir with the following but it made no difference after restarting zbrush4

//ZBrush Hotkeys [BRUSH:MORE ITEMS,98] // B [BRUSH:STANDARD,5447796] // Popup+T [BRUSH:SMOOTH STRONGER,5447795] // Popup+S [BRUSH:MOVE ELASTIC,5054565] // Popup+E [BRUSH:MPOLISH,7151728] // Popup+P [BRUSH:CLIPCURVE,4399203] // Popup+C [BRUSH:CLAYLINE,4399212] // Popup+L [ZPLUGIN:MISC UTILITIES :<<BRUSH,219] // [ [ZPLUGIN:MISC UTILITIES :BRUSH>>,221] // ]

[EDIT:UNDO,634] // Ctrl+Z [EDIT:TOOL:UNDO,634] // Ctrl+Z [EDIT:REDO,890] // Ctrl+Shift+Z [EDIT:TOOL:REDO,890] // Ctrl+Shift+Z

I was using zbrush all day yesterday and ctrl - z worked fine. The hotkeys for smooth, inverse brush still work fine and as I mentioned there is nothing in the hotkeys dir… Those must be listed somewhere else.

Anyways, Id just like to get back into learning this package, and would really like my undo hotkey back. Any help is appreciated. On a side note, is there anything in zbrush similar to the script editor in maya that may be useful for debugging?

Thanks,

Justin

Not sure about your missing files. Ctrl+z sometimes stops working here for no apparent reason…
If there’s an error with a script file, ZBrush will inform you and essentially show you the line that’s hosed.
You’ll appreciate this>>http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?161588-quot-Axis-quot-Plugin-for-ZBrush-4r2

Thanks for the plugin link. Im seeing that the ctrl z bug affects a lot of users.

Does anyone have a copy of the config files I posted above or the contents I could use to create new ones for myself? Preferably stock zbrush configs.

Thanks,

Justin

I’m pretty sure someone posted their hotkeys. Won’t ZBrush load/run now?
I’ve got a thread here with some stuff>>http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?172590-Updated-UI&p=1006795#post1006795
Lot’s of other helpful people on here.

Can you post your system specs & a screenshot of your full interface as described here: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/announcement.php?f=101

That way we’ll have a better chance of sorting out the problem.

Thanks,

.

Thanks Justin, that’s very useful.

Here’s a hotkey file edited to include the Undo/Redo hotkeys.

Download here:

  1. Copy the attached file to your Users\Public\Documents\ZBrushData\ZStartup\Hotkeys\ folder. If you already have a file called StartupHotkeys.txt in that folder then replace it with this one.
  2. Restart ZBrush.

There’s no need to worry about configuration files, they do not affect hotkeys.

Let me know if this helps.

EDIT: In answer to your other question, although ZBrush has its own scripting language it can’t be used to debug the program’s general operation.

Thank you that worked!
