Ok so heres what my thoughts are.
I build alot of pcs for peeps at work and through word of mouth. So when I’m not doing something people can usually sense my moment of freedom. and ask the “Can you build little Jimmy a PC”

And of course I always say

“ah poor little jimmy”

Anywho this time I saved my cart. From the latest build, which was a 3D Machine meant to run Maya and Zbrush.

So now without further ado I bring you the computer of the month

i’m not sure i understand why you would need two dvd drives.
so i almost bought that raptor for my new system but decided it wasn’t worth the 1ms second difference compared to a 7200 drive that has a bigger cache, not to mention being 3gb/s.
so my new system is:

8gb-CORSAIR XMS2 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz
EVGA 8800gts(g92)
1 seagate sata 250gb 7200 es2 32mb cache 3gbs
1 wd sata 250gb 7200 16mb 3gbs
zerotherm nirvana nv120mm cpu cooler (awesome!)
1 120mm fan

My total from newegg as much less than yours (due to the psu and dvd and lower ram most likely) but around $1400(my wife gave me a 1200 budget, but thankfully let me go a bit over).
I ran a quick test last night and was able to divide a model up past 30 mil polys, of course it was sluggish, but if you hid most of it it was workable. (not that i intend on using models that high), my old pc topped out at about 4mil and was sluggish at 1mil. so thats a huge increase for me yay!
i did run into the compacting memory issue even with it set at 4096, i still had a few gigs of ram left but zbrush tops out at 4 it seems. :cry:

so hopefully by tomorrow i’ll be able to get started back in your comic thread.
