Hi I have bought an intuos 4 tablet for a bargain price on ebay. Have played with it for about 5 mins in Zbrush, and it felt a little how shall we say? New to me…Granted its 5 mins, I was just wondering how long it will take to get comfy with it…I have never used a tablet before!!
I got used to it in a day or so and I was sculpting non-stop… you will too I’m certain

Just a quick question…I am having a play on the old tablet and when I set it to active symmetry on the x axis
When I push into the mesh, on the opposite side it pulls out, and vice versa…
It happens most towards the right and left faces of the mesh, and not so much when its mirroring in the middle,
Any ideas?
Yep the feature you are looking for is Backface masking. You’ll find it under Brush/Auto Masking. Crank up the slider to 100.
Hope that helps.
Cool thanks - my left symmetry works but is much slower at the first “pull” …
If that makes any sense…
Hmm how can I explain this better?
the left symmetry deformation at the beginning is not as responsive as it should be. (the right side is fine, but the left slowly starts and builds up to the same intensity as my original right pull mark) So There is a lesser reaction than on the LEFT side.
I have bumped up the number you suggested to 100 (back face auto mask intensity)
Do I have to adjust the curve as well?/ how can I get it to match my standard brush?
Thanks bro!

(i hope this makes sense
)
EDIT: sentence
Apologies!!!
Forget about the slider, that’s just for Auto Polygroup Masking. just click on Backface Masking (It’s late here and i’ve got a cold
)
About the symmetry issue … ??? Don’t have a single clue man. I also use a wacom and i’ve never had anything like that … ever.
Maybe you work with a massive Polycount?
Well why don’t you post a screenshot, might help.
Check that you have Transform>Mirror Symmetry turned on… (along with X)
In the Transform Menu
>X< >Y< >Z< >M<
@ Svengali: Good Call ! One of the features i always knew was there, but somehow never touched it
Voila! It was indeed the mirror M button in the symmetry section…
Thanks very much…
Now with the pen when you want to click on a menu - do you
A) Click the lower button
B) Tap the tablet with Nib
C) None of the above
I know its a silly question to ask - but when I click on edit, I get the paint/brush/ sub menu pop up which kind of obscures my view…
And when I go to initialise the pen seems to draw on the canvas immediately - how can I turn that off as well?
Mucho gracias amigos
??? you got some weird stuff going on … doesn’t sound like a ZBrush issue to me. Sounds like you need to set up your wacom properly. Just go into the Wacom utility and check the settings.
Oh and make sure you have got the latest drivers.
Hope that helps.
Hmm have tried to setup wacom…
When you put the nib to the tablet that acts as a left mouse button click…?
Is there anyway to disable that?
As soon as my nib hits the surface I dont want it say - creating a marquee selection straight away.
I just want to move my cursor!
Anyway of doing this or does it have to click every time you put the nib to it?
Thanks
lol finally i understand what you actually mean. Well seems like you just have to get used to your good buddy Wacom. Once you get the hang of it you will only touch the tablet if you actually want it.
I am literally not able anymore to navigate through my computers without a tablet, because i am like twice as fast than with any mouse.
I don’t really think you can deactivate the left click feature for the pen tip and to be honest i also think that it wouldn’t make sense as that is the one command you need all the time. Also i would assign the top button to the middle mouse click.
Don’t forget that you can setup your Intous differently for every application
Just practice a bit more and you will feel comfortable pretty fast.
So to move your cursor you only hover over the surface of the tablet?
Thats crazy!!
lol nope that’s cool
honestly, you’ll get used to it and once you have, you will ask yourself how you ever made it without your wacom
at the risk of sounding like an idiot…when you place your cursor on your desktop and it makes a markee selection…do you click once to clear it or double tap when you put your pen down…
Now after this question I promise to shut up:D
