So I decided to import an old mesh I made in Blender and detail it a bit, since blender can’t sculpt too well. All is fine, until I got to the toes. The big toe was separate, but the other 4 toes were combined, because I didn’t expect them to be seen much. Now that I’m using ZBrush I figured I should try to do things more correctly and detail them individually.
The problem is, I can’t seem to cut them apart. I did mask the crease between toes, hide and then delete hidden, but Close Holes just connected them to each other again. I stretched them far apart to get it to close the toes individually, but the geometry was pretty bad I couldn’t smooth it out. I then tried to model a set of toes separately, stick them where they should be and Dynamesh them together with the rest of the foot. Problem is (as most people know I’m pretty sure)… Dynamesh is a bit destructive. It kills any detail elsewhere on the mesh, even at really high resolutions -and- it adds a ton of density that I don’t need yet. Also the toes merged together, but can be avoided by rotating them away just for Dynamesh.
Then I tried to cut the lower leg off and just Dynamesh the toes to the foot, then use that bridge curve tool thing to connect the leg again. Well… the bridge it builds doesn’t connect all the polys and it is like it is twisted, one side trying to bridge to the opposite side of the leg.
I don’t have screenshots because I just don’t save after a failed attempt and after 3 days of trying to figure this out I’m a bit frazzled. It’s pretty common stuff though… feet and toes… I’m assuming most people get the idea of how it looks and what my issue is.
I like my topology so if I can get away with just fixing the foot area and not the whole body that would be great. Also, I already started detailing the rest of the body a bit, so I’m hoping that wasn’t a waste. It’s more of a brain itch now. A challenge almost… No matter what, I’ve got a lot of practice learning the tools, even if they didn’t do what I want.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m struggling here and spending a lot of time with no results.
