Colorize issue

Hi guys

I’m having a bit of an issue with coloring subtools.

I have a character made of different subtools. I want to color each part individually but when I select a color it fills all of my subtools with the same color, as in if I pick the color red it turns all of my subtools red.

Is there something I’m missing?

If you want a Material/Color to stay in a subtool do the following.

  1. Select the subtool you want to fill.
  2. Turn on ‘Mrgb’ button.
  3. Select the material and color you want to use.
  4. Go to ‘Color’ menu and click ‘FillObject’.

Now that material and color will stay in that subtool. It only looks like it is in the other subtools because ZBrush is giving you a live preview of the material you have selected. Select another material and see.

Repeat steps 1 to 4 if you want to
‘Fill’ another subtool.

Buttons at the top of canvas

Mrgb - Select this if you want to fill the subtool with material and color.

Rgb - Select this if you want to fill the subtool with color only.

M - Select this if you want to fill the subtool with material only.

Just tried this. It’s still filling all of the subtools rather than just one.

I’ve attached a screenshot below. Initially it was one subtool but I split it into separate objects.

I only see one subtool filled.

Maybe this will help you to understand it…

When there is no polypaint information to show -such as when it doesn’t exist or when polypaint is turned off - zbrush will default to showing the currently selected color and material.

There’s a tiny paintbrush icon on the subtool list, next to the eyeball icons. It’s currently disabled for the active Subtool (PM3d_MMM_57) along with most of the other ones. This means that polypaint is turned off for those subtools, which is why it is showing the currently active color rather than what you are filling.

Clicking that paintbrush icon will turn polypaint on for the subtool (it is the same as enabling Tool: Polypaint: Colorize).
Shift+Clicking on one of the paintbrush icons will turn on polypaint for every subtool.

You need to fill each subtool separately, otherwise they will all preview with the colour or/and material you applied to the first one.
