Whenever I press “cntrl+****” I select the “TrimCur” brush and am unable to “cntrl+Shift+Drag” to invert my polygroup selection. I am working on this Frog tutorial http://shaneolson.blogspot.com.

Just hold Ctrl+Shift and then click on the large Current Brush thumbnail. You will then be able to select the Select Rect or Select Lasso brush. Whichever you choose will become the default brush when holding Ctrl+Shift.
