Hey guys, how do you create your clothing in zbrush? I’ve created the basic body, then i Extruded jacket, pants, shoes etc. I don’t know if this is the right method though, since it has a thickness (inside), and I know it makes retopologizing a little bit problematic (at least in Maya). Should i get rid of that thickness inside? And if so, how could I do that, because I tried masking it, making it invisible and deleting it, but then if I’d like to dynamesh the model that’s left, it will fill that “hole” inside, which is not what i want. On the other hand, I think clothing should have some thickness, it’s not just a plane, right? So yeah, I would appreciate any help very very much.
Hiya @magdzilla!
Mesh Extracts are a common way to create garments in Zbrush.
Zbrush, in most cases, prefers a closed volume with a bit of thickness. Some processes in Zbrush, like Dynamesh, don’t work well with open or 2d meshes at all. Generally it is better to work with a bit of thickness in Zbrush, then eliminate unwanted geometry when optimizing the mesh topology for performance in another application.
With clothing, however, sometimes it is useful to first work with a 2d surface at low poly, because it will be easier to pull the points into position, and then add some thickness to it. You’ll have to make those calls yourself depending on the situation. Just keep the above point in mind.
