Closing polygroup edges

I have created a simple bended frame, but don’t seem to able to close the end gaps and keeping the crisp edges. Hence, dynamesh is not an option. There probably is a very simple solution for this, just haven’t been able to figure it out. Help?!?

One method would be Tool >> Geometry >> Close Holes. This will do the job using triangles. If you then want quads you would use ZRemesher. There are a couple ways you could do that:

  1. Hide the original geometry. Now turn on ZRemesher’s FreezeBorder feature before using it. This will retopologize just the geometry that was created to close the holes and will do so in a way that maintains integrity with the original mesh.

  2. Duplicate the SubTool and use ZRemesher like normal. This will soften the edges, but that’s no problem because you can then use Project All to get back the original shape.

This works up to a point. The problem is that it also closes the hole inside the frame. When removed, the gaps between polygroups are again visible. Surely, there must be a way to create closed edged forms when using clipping brushes?

You could try another method. This is about clipping brushes>> http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/hard-surface/clip-brushes/

Even with clipping brushes, I get open edges, specifically for the hollow cylinder which was used as a primitive for this frame.

Try this. Get your cylinder curved as you like, with the masking brushes select the shape of your frame. Use extract, Double with some thickness to it. Preview results, if happy click Accept.
