Closing holes and how to make quad polys without losing shape

Is there a way to close the hole of a primitive like a cylinder and make it 4 sided polygons without losing it’s shape and not having to make totally new geometry?

I could of sworn I saw this done somewhere but can’t find it. :o

Every time I use QRemesher, UnifiedSkin, ReMesh All, even Dynamesh it loses the edge around the top and bottom of the cylinder and misshapes it. I have even tried using the close holes and merge the triangles to quads which keeps the shape but it has some triangles in it still.

Some triangles shouldn’t be a problem. That said, if you do need it all quads for some technical reason, a simple subdivision should turn every triangle into 3 quads. You could try combining Dynamesh with it’s projection option, or use it/remesh along with the Project All tool to maintain the shape better (dynamesh will allow for some triangles vs remesh). Manual retopology is also an option.

Thanks knew there was one little thing I wasn’t doing to make it all quads like I had seen in a movie recently some where… totally forgot to subdivide thank you. Yeah to get uniform quads will have to manually do it wish that the QRemesher guides would make this faster where i wouldn’t have to lay out the topo by hand… I know I am being lazy lol of course if I make one and save it will have it to use at other times too guess I will.

Thank you so much for your help.:sunglasses:small_orange_diamond:+1:
