Clipping multiple subtools

How do I hide or delete everything below the shoulders of Ryan’s anatomy model without going through every single subtool I don’t want?

Hello @jimmylegs

To hide everything but the selected subtool, hold down Shift key and click on visibility (eye icon) on the selected subtool.

To delete everything but the selected subtool, click “Del Other” in the Subtool palette.

Thanks but there are to many subtools layered on top of eachother. I really need to just clip and hide what I don’t need.

Then after you hide everything but the selected subtool, you will have to turn visibility back on for each subtool that you want visible. Your other option would be to use Subtool Folders to organize things. Also, in ZBrush 2022, you can use Visibility Sets (see below video).

Yea I should take the time to put things into folders for future use. Or I could just bring bring it into Modo and hack the lower body off but then it would just be a dumb model. I wouldn’t be able to learn the names of the muscles and bones.

Thanks

Hello @jimmylegs ,

One trick that hasn’t been mentioned yet is to go into Gizmo mode and activate Mutli Transpose mode (Icon on far right above the Gizmo manipulator.)

This mode shares many of the same functions as the traditional visibility shortcuts. When you first activate the mode ALL the subtools will be selected, as evidenced by them appearing as a solid mesh.

Shift-Ctrl click on the subtools in the viewport that you wish to remain visible. As soon as you click on one, all the other subtools will become de-selected, as evidenced by a semi transparent horizontal line pattern. Each additional subtool you Shift-Ctrl click on will be added to the selection.

Since the number of subtools you wish to remain visible is fewer than the number you wish to hide, simply select the subtools you wish to remain visible, then Shift-Ctrl click in empty canvas space to invert the selection.

Now when you press Ctrl-F to create a new subtool folder, it will notice that you have multiple subtools selected in Multi Transpose mode, and ask you if you would like to add them to a folder. Select yes, and now like @zber2 suggested, you have a folder containing all the subtools you want to get out of the way that you can toggle the visibility on or off with a single click.

Good luck!

Thanks I played around with the pizza box tool yesterday but was going to have to spend to much time on it. Plus the way it hashes the selected tools it weird and hard to figure out what is going on. Although I didn’t know that it had a folder function this will probably work for me. Thanks for the help.

As you like. I probably should have clarified though, you can simply Shift+Ctrl click in that mode to draw a selection marquee above the shoulders, and any subtools that have any parts that fall under that marquee will be automatically selected.

:slightly_smiling_face:

Cool that would work great then all I have to do is deselect the skeleton which is on it’s own layer and group the selection and name it. Thanks
