Clip Circle brush question

Hello, everyone.

I please have a simple question. How can I accept the opposite of what the Clip Circle brush does on my subtool? For example, when we mask something, we simply control click to mask the opposite of what was masked the first time.

My problem is that this doesn’t seem to work with the Clip Circle brush. What I’m trying to do is this. I have a coin shaped object and I want to trim the subtool so that only the outer edge of the coin is left like a ring. I don’t want to use another object as I thought the Clip Circle brush works perfectly. But the stroke only removes the outside of my coin, I can’t seem to “control shift click” to get the opposite trim.

Is there something I’m missing?

Thanks.

Do you already have a hole in the middle of your coin? If so, then just add the alt-key to the shortcut (so ctrl+shift+alt when dragging out the circle). This will change the direction of the push. If there isn’t a hole in the middle of this coin though…

Clip brushes do not change the topology of your model; they only push the existing vertices around. So while clipping may be able to alter the outer silhouette of a model, but its not the right tool for punching brand new holes through a model.

If you have good topology in place for it, you can use z-modeler to create the hole instead. If not, then you can use the trim/slice brushes to add a circular polygroup (which you can then bridge both sides together), or you can use Live Booleans to cut out the hole.

OK, thank you. No, I don’t have a hole in the coin and thank you for explaining the various approaches I could take.

I really appreciate all of your great information, thank you!
