Clay Brush's strange behaviours

Hi all,
I’m working with Clay brush and I’m starting to appreciate it, but I’ve noticed strange artifact: put simmetry on, let’s say on X, then sculpt from one side to other one and you’ll have a little, light depression just where strokes meet, so I have to smooth it to have a clean sulpting wasting time and sculpting.
It seems to me that there wasn’t in 3.1. Could you confirm?

I like brushes can follow the mesh, they can be tangent, but I miss the normal brushes behaviour as in 3.1.
For example, the Clay brush gives me strange results where are corner, I mean, where there’s a fast change in shape: is it possible to avoid the tangent feature for brushes?

Thanks in advance.

there is a error on the centerline of models with most if not all the brushes, there is another thread somewhere and i’m thinking it will most likely be fixed eventually.

could you show an example of what you mean about the cornering? perhaps play with the samples value, or buildup or onsurface, all in the brush menus

Hi spaceboy412,
thanks for your answer.
For the middle workst line, I strongly hope they’ll fix it, because, according to me and I’m not a pro, it’s quite distracting and time consuming, anyway I pay the price of that, 'cause 3.5 simply rocks.

For the corner problem, here’s a video I made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQqkqYIN4N0
You can see the clay brush applied on the mandible: is it normal and I’m wrong or is it strange?
Thanks again.

okay, it is different, i’m not sure i would say strange.
i did some tests between 3.1 and 3.5r2, first off, with a example like yours with a sharp edge, in 3.1 the brush passes through the edge the same way but actually distorts and pinches it, in 3.5r2 it is much cleaner and just passes through.
what i think you are wanting is the stroke to go through the edge but not leave the edge showing?
you need to play with the brushes brush imbed slider, for my test it looked good between 35-60 but may differ on what you are doing. i was using a mouse so tablet strength may play a role as well. there might be other settings that will get the effect you want in that submenu, i suggest you play with them.

spaceboy412, your suggestion seems to work, but in this way I need more attention of sculpting, because the brush is more strong.
Anyway, it does the job!
One last consideration is sometimes the clay brush acts as you saw in 3.1: even with your suggestion, it sculpts nice for a bit, then it pinches the mesh, then it sculpts again.
Maybe it has to do with fast changing dense surfaces that are near “corners”, but I think I have to experiment with brush options as you suggest.
Thanks again.
