Cintiq pen clicks no longer register when Zbrush is opened - Mac OSX

[I just posted this in the community forum like a noob. Hopefully it doesn’t get moved here and instead it gets deleted. Sorry if this ends up being a double post.]

Hey guys. I’m new to the forums, but thought this was the best place to ask a question about an issue I’ve recently encountered with a brand new Cintiq 13HD and Zbrush not playing nice.

The Cintiq works great in Photoshop and Maya so I know my drivers are installed correctly and there shouldn’t be any issues there, but whenever I open Zbrush, regardless of which monitor it’s assigned to, my Cintiq stops working. The mouse still hovers, right click works, and the display is obviously still showing the program, but pen clicks aren’t registering. Like, at all. I cant even close Zbrush or open another program from the dock. Clicks don’t register at all. But if I right click, then tap my pen tip down again, it DOES close the context menu. So something must be registering clicks.

I’m using a Macbook Pro with the latest OSX Sierra 10.12.5 and had no issues with my Wacom Intuos Pro for the last 3 years in Zbrush.

I should note that this only occurs when I have a second monitor plugged in. If I unplug the monitor the tablet works just fine again.

Any ideas?

Yeah I’m noticing this on my Cintiq 27 pen/touch as well on Mac. I can’t click on open or save dialogs and can’t quit without reaching for a mouse. I note that the pointer is not lining up if I click lower it looks like its offset by 1/2 the screen vertically.
OSX 10.12.5 Nvidia drivers latest one. - 378.05.05.15f01
Wacom driver tried last 2 of them …
6.3.21-8 and 6.3.22-3
no luck… works everywhere else just fine … just Zbrush messing up only.

Hello!
I have the same problem with a cintiq 13 Pro, and tried different things

like switching the click to an other button, but nothing, i changed the ‘click’ on the tip of the pen to ‘right click’ and the ‘right click’ works, so it is not the tip of the pen.
I tried the tablet on an old macbook pro that still has mavericks and the pen works just fine, so with that i went as far as to format the computer, and do a clean install of sierra, install the drivers and zbrush only, but no luck, so its not the drivers

the closest that i got to find a solution, was to make the cintiq monitor the main monitor (in display/arrange/ move the menu bar to the cintiq) i can work with the click inside zbrush, but any OS dialogs like the save, import, open, the click stops working, and have to use the mouse to import a tool for example.

and for now that is how im working but it is not optimal.

hope we can find a solution soon.

best,

I’m seeing the same issue. its when os dialogs pop up that things get weird. I notice that the pen pointer clicks but its offset by like 1/2 a screen width.

when no dialogs are open its mostly ok. so I suspect some oddness with Zbrush’s native interface and apple’s Sierra update.

ok same behavior with 4R8… sigh… was hoping that the update would fix things…
no luck… still off

I have this same issue with a Cintiq 22HD and iMac. It’s on the latest version of OSX.

It’s only the regular click that doesn’t register correctly. Like mentioned it’s either offset or non-existent. It seems to happen from a certain point on down. This only happens with dual monitor setup. If you change the arrangement positions of the monitors the problem changes from top to bottom depending on the position of the 2 monitors in the settings.

This problem goes away if your mirror the displays instead of 2 separate displays. This is a temporary fix I do when using Zbrush. This is odd because it only affects left click. Right click and middle click is fine.

This is only an issue with Zbrush. Photoshop and everything else I’ve tried works normal.

However the biggest problem is this;

Apple puts the blame on Zbrush and/or Wacom, ‘not our problem’.
Wacom puts the blame on Apple and/or Pixologic, ‘not our problem’.
Pixologic puts the blame on Apple and/or Wacom, ‘not our problem’.

Everyone is blaming everyone else and nobody is looking into the issue. Pixologic needs to take a look at this and work with Wacom and Apple to figure out why their program isn’t working with multiple display arrangement. It’s only on the latest OSX that I have seen this issue. I know OSX changed the way multiple displays are used and Pixologic needs to stop ignoring it and blaming everyone else when it’s their program that doesn’t work.

Yeah Pixologic needs to own up to this one and check with Wacom. clearly something changed somewhere.
not sure which of the 3 faults it is… but yeah its totally unusable without a mouse for now with any pop up window.

I am using a regular Intuous 4 tablet and have the same issue! Zbrush R7 and R8.

interesting… nice to know its not just me… but this appears to be a wacom driver / zbrush “odd interface” issue… not surprising since they don’t follow any standards for interface… just odd they are this quiet and letting people suffer… soooo many mac / wacom zbrush users… in hollywood you would think there would be tons of pressure to fix this quickly.

what mac are you on?

I’m on a MacPro (late 2013) with Sierra 10.12.

BTW, the dialogs are not the only problem. When I try to select a brush on my user interface the whole ZBrush window moves down to the bottom of my screen. This happens 2 out of 3 times.

This makes ZBrush completely unusable on a Mac with Sierra for now. Thank god I am not a professional artist, who makes money out of his art. But these constant problems I have with the Wacom drivers and OS Software makes me quit my hobby.

confirmed window jumps down to the bottom of the screen… grrrrrr.
This is frustrating… are we all using nvidea drivers ??

Im on an iMac, but also late 2013, and also with the Nvidia drivers (with the CUDA thing installed also)

have any of you tried the high sierra beta OS to see if the problem persists?

Apparently I’m not getting email notifications for my posts on here so I didn’t realize anyone had responded.

While I’m relieved I’m not alone in this, I’m even more frustrated that nothing has been done about it yet. I returned my Cintiq to the store because I couldn’t justify spending $800 on a new tablet that doesn’t work for Zbrush, which is my primary program. Which sucks because I loved it for Photoshop, so I know it would have been great for Zbrush if it worked. And I can’t justify not having a second monitor for reference/music/chat/twitch. I like to stream my art but without a second monitor that’s just so impractical.

Also. I wanted to note that switching back to my Intuos Pro tablet still has the same menu offset issue some of you guys have mentioned. And now I’m having an issue where switching back to Zbrush after clicking off of it causes the bottom hidden menu slider to attach to my mouse. I have to click to set it, then click it to hide it at the bottom of the screen again. Not a huge issue, but it’s so irritating when I’m in the zone and I just want to switch songs or position my reference or something and then I’m interrupted by that every time.

I’m pretty sure I’ll be investing in a non-Wacom tablet pretty soon to see if I can save money on a larger active area while fixing these issues. Fingers crossed.

there was nothing wrong with your cintiq… go grab one again if you like it… zbrush and wacom need to sort this stuff out!
if they can stop just pointing at each other that is.

Im surprised that all the big wigs… are not raising hell over there… lots of high profile folks in hollywood will be torching pixologic HQ if this keeps going on for too long LOL>

I have the 27QHD pen/touch… wouldn’t trade it for anything… also im texturing in mari… hell for 59/mo its worth it… ptex for high poly 32k for the win

I did go back to OS X El Capitan and a previous Wacom driver version. It has been working ever since.

However, I contacted Pixologic about the Wacom issue and pointed them at this thread. This was three weeks ago. I am still waiting for an answer from them.

Well this fixed it for me! seems driver utility leaves stuff behind and uninstall / re install isn’t as clean as it should be

Dear Customer

Thank you for your response and I apologize for the long delay on getting back to you, I would like for you to follow the steps below to reinstall the driver to see if the issue can fixed, if the issue persists please send me a video of the of the pen mis-alignment.

An outdated or corrupt preference file could be causing an issue. First, disconnect the tablet from the computer and remove the driver using the Wacom Utility. After removing the driver with the utility, you can manually check to see if anything is left behind in the following folders. So while in our desktop we want to click on ‘Go’ (upper left corner), then on ‘Computer’. Once inside, please access your main hard drive (by default should be named Macintosh HD). Once we’re here anything that’s related to Wacom, would need to be removed from the folders. The same will have to be checked in any respective User’s folder on the system. On OS X 10.7 Lion or later, the User Library folder has been hidden. To access it, you must select ‘Go’ from the top of Finder and select 'Go to folder…’. Here, enter ’ ~/Library ’ to access the current user’s Library folder. Please check for Wacom related files and remove them from inside the next folders:

Macintosh HD/

Applications/Wacom Tablet
Library/Application Support/Tablet
Library/Frameworks/WacomMultiTouch.framework
Library/Internet Plugins/WacomTabletPlugin.plugin
Library/Launch Agents/com.wacom.wacomtablet.plist
Library/LaunchDaemons/com.wacom.displayhelper.plist
Library/LaunchDaemons/com.wacom.RemoveTabletHelpter.plist
Library/LaunchDaemons/com.wacom.TabletHelper.plist
Library/PreferencePanes/WacomTablet.prefpane
Library/Preferences/Tablet
Library/PriveledgedHelperTools/com.wacom.RemoveTabletHelper
Library/PriveledgedHelperTools/com.wacom.TabletHelper
Users/<user>/Library/Preferences/com.wacom.ProfessionalTablet.plist
Users/<user>/Library/Preferences/com.wacom.wacomtablet.prefs
Users/<user>/Library/Preferences/com.wacom.wacomtouch.prefs

After this is complete then there should not be any leftover files of a previous Wacom driver file. A restart and a repair of your disk permissions would be important steps before installing a driver. Again, make sure that the tablet is plugged directly into the computer, not into a USB hub or keyboard/monitor.

Once this is complete, download and install the latest driver from:
http://cdn.wacom.com/u/productsupport/drivers/mac/professional/WacomTablet_6.3.23-4.dmg

As always, make sure your tablet is connected directly to your computer. Avoid using USB hubs, keyboard/monitor ports, or docking stations with the tablets, as they can cause inconsistent behavior.

Hope this helps.
Thank you for choosing Wacom, Have a creative day!
