Cintiq 12 WX experience

Hello,

I’m considering buying a Wacom 12wc tablet. Does anybody have experience with it? I have no money for a 2000USD tablet, so I don’t think on the bigger tablets.

Thanks guys

and how much for 12 WX btw? (i have no idea)
it’s around $1600 as i know

I have a cintiq 21 Ux, a friend at the office has 12 wx, the area is a bit small,
like a very small tablet pc its a 10.3/6.4 inch work area only.
I have an intuos 3 9/12, i would prefer that to the smaller work area of the 12wx.
stricly my opinion

I have the 12wx and find it very good (In Zbrush 2 as Z3 aint out on the mac yet. )

Its small enough that I can sit on the couch by my back wall in comfort rather than at the desk while sketching or Zbrushing. Which is perfect for me as sitting upright for any length of time is not good for my back.

For me personally my work has improved by a massive amount over the old tablets I used to use and however small it may appear to be its way bigger than my old intuos.

Its not perfect and I do have to recalibrate it from time to time but I would not be without mine now. The only thing I would want for it is a higher res screen than the 1280x800 that it comes with but I can use it as a standard tablet and use my main monitor if I had a problem.

If you can, I would find somewhere that you could try one out. I dont think you can really understand the benefits without actually trying it.

Cheers

i have used both the 12" and the 21 ux. however i now use only the 21ux.

the reason.
i found sculpting at high detail for more than about 30-50 mins becomes very tiering on the smaller screen. also limited work space can slow you down in zbrush.
there are advantages however. 1 its lite and great to sit back and relax with maybe in a chair or in bed, but not so great for long term use.
if its for concepting in photoshop then its a fabulous tool as it mimics a paperpad perfectly.
so it all depends on howlong you intend on useing it at one time and what you spend most of your time doing.

if the answer is zbrush/maya/other3d i would save up and get a 21ux or go down to an intous.
if its mainly photoshop with smaller amounts of zbrush/other 3d then the 12" is a winner and will speed up your work flow.

id also agree with the last post you should try and demo it before you buy:D
hope this helped

Leishy, it’s actually 999USD.

Alas I can’t afford the 21", it’s too expensive to my budget. The 21" is about 3 times more expensive than the 12". Now I have an Intuos 3 A6 (I think it’s about 4" x 5") so a 12" would be a significant improvement.

Thank you for all comments, I’ll try to get a demo

one last bit of advice; when you demo it try not to get swept away by the 12"s wow/cool factor, remember the noveltiy will ware off, so make sure the main aim of the demo is “can i live and work with this for the next 2-4 years or will i regreat it after the wow factor has gone.”

this should be considered about the intuos as well.

good luck

I would buy a 21" there’s no doubt, but I think for a 2 year period I can live with it. I need a precision in my work that I couldn’t get with standard Intuos. If the 12wx happen to be a perfect solution for the test period, I’m gonna buy it.

Hi there,

I have the 21" and the 12" (I use the 12 at home with my macbook pro).

I have no problems with either one. Based on the obvious that more screen real estate is better, I am trying to do a custom interface specifically for the 12" so that I have more working area. But beyond that I find both of them wonderful. Plus, to reiterate, it’s really nice to be able to take the laptop into the livingroom with the wifey and sit and sketch in zBrush.

I think you will be happy with the 12 in zBrush, but when you have the money I would definitely recommend the 20 or 21. All that wonderfull screen size is great. Although I do wish they could make the 21" resolution higher.

Good luck with your purchase!

The cintiq looks a bit laggy on zbrush, compaired to a normal PC, is it true?

not sure what you are seeing there. Neither of mine seem laggy at all. The only thing I have noticed is keeping it away from other peripherals that may cause brush interference (you can get a small wobble in the brush if some electronics are too close tot he tablet itself)

I’ve tested ZBrush with Cintiq 21UX and Cintiq 12WX. My personal preference would be the 21 version as it gives more working room. As a matter of fact you should look into the 20 Wide screen version I think it’s Cintiq 20 WSX. The Cintiq works great with ZBrush and I highly recommend one

How would I go about demoing one of the cintiqs?
