Choppy sculpting performance with 4R8P2

I’m fairly new to ZBrush, but have have a little experience with it in the past. I have it running on a pretty high end system (Threadripper, 64GB RAM, NVidia 1080 Ti), and am experiencing choppiness when sculpting on a susrface that that only 189 201 active and total points. This seems really low for Zbrush to be slowing down like this. I can get better performance when I step down in resolution, but come on. I remember working on a an object that was 10,000,000 polys and not experiencing this level of slowdown (this was on another computer, although this was 3 years ago on older hardware). I would like to understand why I am having this issue, so I can resolve it. This is a single object, no subtools. It was brought in from Maya as an OBJ, and further subdivided under Zbrush. Next to the point count, it says “dynamic” I guess this has to do with Dynamic subdivision?. Does this have to do with my low performance with 200k polys?.

yes the dynamic button is your issue. You do not want to sculpt with that on. Turn it off for normal sculpting.

Thank you yes after posting I read the documentation and learned about dynamic subdiv. I guess I had one of these noob moments where I rushed to the forum for answers…
