Certain parts of mesh have restricted movement -- why?

Tail.JPG
This is an adaptive skin drawn from Zspheres. The problem is, using both the move brush and the deformation options in the tool panel, the tail pictured above will only move in the up/down y-axis. The problem originated before I drew the adaptive skin, when it was just z-spheres.

I assume I just accidentally clicked some option that I am unaware or something like that, but maybe this could be a bug too. Any advice is greatly appreciated

I think it’s probably that the model is too big. Press Tool>Deformation>Unify and see if that helps.

Thanks for the reply. I just gave that a try but it did not effect the problem I am having.

I tried masking off the rest of the model and seeing if I could bend the tail with some of the deformation options, but nothing worked satisfactorily.

It’s not a big deal right now, I’m sure as I continue to work in Zbrush I will eventually figure out what I was doing to cause this issue. It’s strange though because the rest of the model moves and deforms just as you would expect – no restrictions. It must be something about the way I am working with the Zspheres, now that I think about it, because I started another sculpt from scratch and am facing the exact same issue.

I’m kinda dumb, so I’m probably wrong or misunderstanding the problem… but it sounds like you have symmetry on and your brush size is large enough that it grabs the other side too, so it cancels itself out going side to side, but up and down works. If you turn off symmetry does it still have that issue? (I assume it was on only because that is how I ran into this problem before)

Wow.

It’s not you who is dumb, it’s me.

Thanks a lot! I’m kind of embarrassed… oh well, now I know.
