Cernunnos - Lord of beasts and wild places

Cernunnos was a Celtic god of beasts and wild places, a mediator of man and nature, able to tame predator and prey so they might lie down together.






I’ve had this Zbrush sculpt sitting in my hard drive since 2008 and with the recent lockdown decided to give it a bit of a resurrection.
I’ve been wanting to learn how to make cg hair for a while and thought this would be a great opportunity to delve a bit into Xgen. It’s a bit rough around the edges but I’m happy with how it turned out in the end. I used Mash to spawn all the water droplets on the skin, hair and antlers, and in the creation of the sparks in the fiery version. I also used Quixel megascans for things like the grasses, dandelions and clovers, and also the jade stone geometry.
Lighting and shading was all done with Maya and Arnold renderer. DOF blur was all done in render (minus a few rare parts) so render times were through the roof.
