Celebrity Likeness

Hey everybody,

I’m new to ZBrush, and I decided to attempt a celebrity likeness. The hair and neck are still rough, and it needs an overall polish pass. Comments and critiques are welcome, hopefully you can tell who it is. Thanks!

Hi,
i would think about Clint Eastwood as Josey Wales. Eyes and mouth are on the right way, but the nose is to wide and has to be more pointy, i guess.
Nice to see another try on Estwood here on ZBC.

Regards,

Carsten

All I can do is tell you what my eye’s see.
Yeah, I’d know that face anywhere. Good thing. I see too much buldge in the viens on the forhead. Looks almost exactly like a Michael Myers Halloween mask I’ve seen. (In fact, so much so that it came to mind instantly)
The chin. Kinda looks like a button was just pegged on his chin.
Wrinkles around the eyes. Too uniform. Almost the exact same length.

I responded to this thread because of the title. That’s what I’m interested in doing as well. To the OP, see my thread “I’m not worthy”, for a good laugh.
Jeez you guys are using Quantom Physics and I’m in kindergarten with my crayons. ( Translation, what do I know? Nothing. Only what my eyes told me after looking at your post for a LONG time)

Thanks for the comments!

Carsten: I think you’re right about the nose. It needs to be narrower overall, and pinched a bit at the bridge. I was looking at your Clint model before I posted mine, nice work!

concretefire: I see what you mean about the veins and wrinkles being too strong. The crow’s feet need to be toned down, and the weight and length of each crease needs to be varied. Thanks for the feedback! I think the material I used artificially emphasizes the wrinkles and creases. I’ve attached an image with a slightly softer material. I’ve also attached one of my main reference images. Although I might have overdone it, I think he does have fairly pronounced veins and wrinkles. Thanks again for your comments!

Just as a quick follow up , if you would like to see the mask I was talking about with Michael Myers. I won’t post the link because I don’t know the rules here that well, but I’m going to assume that’s a bad thing. Just google this:

Michael Myers+Mask.

One of the first set of links will be to Michael Myers dot net.
Go to gallery, page 2 , top middle, “evilution” mask. That’s the one I thought of.

Your work is great. With the skin and the lighting right, everything may be perfect. In fact, I think that website is great because it has EVERYONES own version of “the mask”. Same face, done 42,456 ways. All are unique. Some are darn near perfect. Others, not so much. Basicaly over there, you got about 50 or so die hard Halloween fans like me, trying to re-create the “mask” used in Halloween 1 and 2. And not photo’s or renders like we are trying to do here. These people are real life sculpters going only on what they see with their eyes. The really good masks sell for $300+. The point is, and what links that to you, me, and this post, is THAT mask cannot be “re-created”.

Short version: William Shatner, AKA Captain Kirk from Startrek , back in the late 70’s had his face cast…so they could make Captain Kirk Halloween masks for the kids. Not a lot were sold, however, a crew member on the film Halloween came across the mask, spray painted it white, roughed up the hair, cut larger eyeholes, and viola…Michael Myers was born. After Startrek went off the air, the original cast of Shatners Face was busted up into tiny pieces for whatever stupid reason. Starting with Halloween 4, the masks were “different”, and it was never the same for me anyway. They were different because no one could find an original or the 3 original masks from 1 & 2.

Since the mould was broken, no more could be made. Only gifted artists like yourself were able , over time , to re-capture the magic (IMHO)

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with your sculpt, or detail, or anything.
I think it’s great. Skin and lighting will change everything. Anyway, hope you the similarities. It’s hard trying to do a mask in any form only from pictures.
