Cave Troll WIP

TrollAngles.jpg

Yes, it’s a cave troll. I know, it’s one of the most used subjects. But I just couldn’t help it, cave trolls are so great! It isn’t finished yet, I’m not even sure if I’ll ever get it finished. I made the base mesh in Nevercenter Silo, and continued working in ZBrush. Now I’ve got the biggest details on the model and it’s time to work on the smaller stuff and the texture.

The model isn’t an accurate copy of the cave troll in the movie, I didn’t really use any reference during modelling. It’s more of a monster inspired by the cave troll.

Enjoy!

Really nice head model. Did you start it off as Zsphere?

Thanks, and nope. As I said in the first post, I made the base mesh in Nevercenter Silo. Started out with a simple box.

Detailed a bit. I didn’t use any Projection Master yet, all details done with the normal brushes.

Good model. Further detail, and texture ought to bring this one to life even more.

Now I’ve detailed the model a bit. Still needs something before the texture. Something to give it more character. Have to think about it.

it looks like E.T.E in the last image

Sorry for not updating in a while, been busy. And still so bored. :stuck_out_tongue: I haven’t worked on the texture at all, but I took the low-poly model to 3ds max and applied a normal map to it. Then I animated the model. It’s a strange feeling seeing your creation “come to life”. The short animation is attached. The video is encoded in DivX.

what did you use to animate it, I still dont know how to rig a mesh, only something with seperate pieces, like a walker…

I used bones to make the neck and head move separately, and morph targets for the facial impressions.

Hahaha, navis, cool animation

You must write a tut about the animation in max :+1:

Thanks. Maybe I’ll do the tutorial some day. I’m really a newbie in animating, I just dabbled around and probably did a dozen newbie mistakes, too.
